AI Use Policy

This policy outlines how artificial intelligence tools are and are not used in the development of Aptikube and its related materials. We believe in transparency with our community about the role of AI in our creative process.

The Game: 100% Human-Created

No AI tools were used to generate any part of the Aptikube game itself. This includes:

  • Code — Every line of game code was written by hand
  • Graphics & Sprites — All visual assets were modeled in Blender and rendered by hand
  • Sound Design — All audio and background music was recorded by humans. AI was used to generate ideas for background music styling and motif.
  • Game Design — All elements, mechanics, puzzles, and systems were designed by human minds. This game was originally inspired by Essence Child by Living Energy Productions.
  • Level Design — All official puzzle levels were crafted by human creativity and community collaboration

Aptikube has been in casual development since 2015, long before AI had widespread adoption in creative workflows. The game is a human passion project through and through.

AI in Development: Learning & Problem-Solving

While the game itself is entirely human-created, AI tools have been consulted during the development process as part of the developer's learning strategy:

  • Learning Assistance — AI has been used as a teaching tool to help understand programming concepts, debug issues, and explore alternative approaches to technical challenges
  • Problem-Solving — When stuck on implementation details or design questions, AI has served as a rubber-duck debugging partner and source of potential solutions
  • Research Acceleration — AI has helped locate relevant documentation, summarize technical topics, and identify best practices more efficiently

In all cases, AI suggestions were evaluated, tested, and either adapted or discarded based on human judgment. The developer remains responsible for all final decisions about what goes into the game.

AI in Marketing & Community Materials

This website was built with AI assistance. The structure, layout, and initial content were generated using AI tools to accelerate development and allow the developer to focus on finishing the game rather than hand-coding every page.

Other community materials may also involve AI assistance for:

  • Website content and updates
  • Social media posts and announcements
  • Documentation and help materials
  • Community communication drafts

All AI-assisted materials are reviewed and edited by humans before publication.

Our Stance

We believe AI tools have legitimate uses as learning aids and productivity enhancers, but they should never replace human creativity in the actual creation of art, code, and design that players experience.

The line we draw:

  • Acceptable: Using AI to learn, debug, brainstorm, or accelerate non-creative tasks
  • Unacceptable: Using AI to generate game assets, code, or design without human authorship

We respect players who value human-created art and want to be clear that Aptikube is the product of nearly a decade of human effort, iteration, and passion.
